Strange enough colds were not common at Auschwitz in Poland. But the human louse was a deadly plague there and Auschwitz had several epidemics caused by the human louse.
Humans have three types of body lice, each one a problem. But the deadly one is the Body Louse. But the Pubic Hair Louse, the Crab Louse also was a problem and so all incoming residents were shaved or the lice would spread to next person.
